☕Your Weekly Sip: Gross Profit vs Net Profit
Gross Profit is the direct profit on the sale of a product:
You sell a pizza for R100
The cost to make the pizza (base, cheese, toppings) is R40
That leaves you with a gross profit of R60
But running a business costs more than just ingredients. You still need to pay rent, electricity, water, staff salaries, marketing, and other overheads. Once you subtract all of those costs, you’re left with what really matters - net profit.
Net profit is the money the business actually keeps.
In simple terms:
Gross profit shows how profitable your product is.
Net profit shows how profitable your business is.
